January 2008

Greetings and Happy New Year! I hope you have enjoyed your holidays and 2008 is starting off well. One of my favorite things about the holidays is receiving holiday cards from all of our friends. However, this year I was struck by the number of cards and family newsletters that talked about what was going health-wise with our friend's parents. When I mentioned this to my father he concurred that health is a common topic of discussion with his peers, and he added in characteristic John Elman, style, “Whenever a group of seventy-somethings get together it inevitably leads to an ‘organ recital'.” Think body part, not Bach Fugue.

Helping clients address the impact of aging is a critical part of what all of us in the Financial Planning Forum do- Last year we enjoyed a wonderful presentation from Dr Elizabeth Landsverk on the medical issues of aging.

This month we are very fortunate to have Past FPF President, Chris Acker, CLU, ChFC present on the issues of Long Term Care and how to address them. Chris is very knowledgeable on this subject and is an excellent presenter. More on Chris below.

We look forward to seeing you there, and don't forget to bring a guest!

Also, for February we are finalizing our speaker, but we have switched the topic to the timely issue of what's the economic impact of the current mortgage situation. More on that to come.

Chris Acker, CLU, ChFC began his career in the insurance field in 1985 with Manulife Financial, now John Hancock, as a territorial wholesale representative.

In 1989 Chris moved from sales management to be the individual insurance specialist with Link-Allen in San Mateo , CA . From 1989 to 1998 he grew his practice substantially by working with both individual and corporate clients and in 1998 he opened his own practice.

Chris is a graduate of Williams College , and he holds a CLU designation, the oldest (1927) and most respected designation demonstrating insurance expertise, and he is also a Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).
