PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

A major goal for the Forum this year is to invite and encourage participation by members in projects of the Board of Directors.  Two key projects for this year are to improve our website, and to develop a long range plan.

Website

We need 2 or 3 members who are familiar with and interested in web and Internet issues.  We would like to make our site more "robust," more useful to members, fellow professionals, and potential clients.

Long range plan

What should the Financial Planning Forum be like in 5 years? Should it be exactly like it is, or different? If different, how should it try to change? Do we want to be the same size or larger? What will or should our membership demographics look like?

If you're interested in helping with either of these issues, please call me at (650) 949-1660, or drop a line to ken@kenkaye.com.

Last Month's Program

Our year got off to a good start with a great membership mixer hosted by City National Bank. Thanks to FPF member and Board Secretary, Carolyn Battaini of City National. Thanks to her too for bringing us Richard Weiss, Chief Investment Officer of City National Bank, who spoke on "Investing in Uncertain Times." Rich described the approach he has taken so successfully with client portfolios at CNB.

This Month's Program

On October 25 we will have Richard Zimmerman, Esq. and Dr. Miriam Zimmerman, certified mediators, who will discuss the role of mediation in marital dissolutions. In addition to telling us a bit about the process, they will help us as financial planners, estate planners, and accountants to recognize the issues in each of our areas that influence and are impacted by the process, and how to serve our clients better.

Miriam has her Doctorate in Education, is a former tenured faculty member at College of Notre Dame, and is a member of the National Communication Associate, Association for Conflict Resolution and a Certified Mediator.

Richard is an attorney, a Certified Public Accountant, and a certified mediator.

2005-2006 Membership and Directories:

KEEP THOSE E-MAIL NOTICES COMING!  The monthly notices are sent to all members on the website database. The 2005-2006 membership list is currently being finalized and will replace last year's database.  If you have not renewed your membership, this will be the last monthly notice that you will receive.

The printed membership directories will be mailed to those who requested the paper version on their application forms. The electronic version will be available on the website for downloading, upon completion of the database update.  NOTE:  If you missed the deadline for inclusion in the paper version, your information will be added to the website and electronic version.

Future Programs

On December 6, Professor Meir Statman of Santa Clara University has accepted our invitation to address the Forum on "Behavioral Finance: Normal Investors, Then and Now."

On January 24, 2006, Mark Shepherd and George Delucchi will discuss the legal, tax, and practical issues affecting "Choice of Entity" for our clients.

Reminders

1. Remember the cost of meals has increased to $40.

2. In addition to the entrée of salmon or chicken (it alternates month to month) you may also choose a vegetarian entrée each month. For October, it will be vegetarian pasta.  I ordered the vegetarian meal in September and it was wonderful

3. Please be sure to fax your reservation form to Karen by 5:00 on Wednesday, October 19
